Coaches Code of Conduct

Coaches Code of Conduct

You are the most important person in our organization. You determine the kind of experience our athletes have with Orono Baseball. We are committed to positive coaching and believe the development of the student-athlete as a person is first and foremost. Life-long skills are gained through participating in a fun baseball environment. A "winning season" is one where each player enjoys the game more at the end of the season than at the beginning and has improved their baseball and life skills. We believe in "R100+":

·       RESPECT for the game, officials, the team and competition,

·       100% EFFORT on and off the field, and

·       +POSITIVE ATTITUDE personally and support for teammates through adversity.

As a coach, we ask you to make the following commitments to your players, parents and league:

·       I will teach my players to RESPECT the game, officials, team and competition in all cases.

·       I will reward effort not just outcomes and look for opportunities to praise 100% EFFORT.

·       I will teach that attitude is a choice and a POSITIVE ATTITUDE is essential to respond to baseball's constant challenges and to rebound from mistakes.

·       I will train my players in the fundamentals of baseball and teach core skills through repetition and creative practice drills.

·       I will schedule fun activities into practices regularly to encourage a love of the game.

·       I will encourage players to set individual progress goals for the season and provide focused coaching to help players reach their objectives.

·       I will build self-thinking players who apply fundamentals and actively communicate on and off the field with coaches and teammates.

·       I will show up to practices and games prepared to teach and set a good example.

·       I will make sure that equipment and facilities are safe and insure the team's first aid kit is available at all games and practices.

·       I will obtain proper training and continue to upgrade my coaching skills.

·       I will collaborate with opposing coaches at all times and refrain from using profane language and abuse towards players, parents and officials.

·       I will use positive reinforcement as my primary coaching style. When needed, I will provide kid-friendly criticism using a sandwich approach (praise, correction, support).

·       I will communicate concerns privately with players and parents as needed avoiding practice and game times. If necessary I will escalate concerns to the OBA board.

At the end of the season the OBA board will survey players and their parents to obtain feedback on the OBA's success in building R100+ life skills, baseball skills and their love of the game. We will gladly share the results with you. Thank you for all your time and effort!
