Drills for Instructional and Rookie Leagues

Thank for Coaching Instructional and Rookie Ball!

You are where the OBA starts!  You will make the first impression on our kids and begin to help them fall in love with America's pastime.  You will also set the stage for the baseball FUNdamentals that will help them be successful at higher levels.  We want to help make this as stress free an experience as possible for the new coach and an even more fun experience for the seasoned coach.  So we have information for you here and other coaches and players to help you out during the season.  Don't be surprised if some of the "big kids" from OBL call you and volunteer to help.  That's part of their learning to give back as well.

Our program is very well aligned with the FUNdamentals taught at the OHS Varsity level.  The key lessons we'd like you to focus on with the beginning player are straightforward:

  • Fielding FUNdamentals--Ready position, grounders, fly balls
  • Throwing FUNdamentals --Shoulder to target, step, follow thru
  • Hitting FUNdamentals--Grip, stance, stride and swing
  • Baserunning FUNdamentals--Run thru first / round first
  • R100+ (Sportsmanship)--Listen to coach, cheer for your team

You will find quick practice plans, sample drills and coaches tips that we hope make this a fun and rewarding experience for you too.  Thank you for being the OBA to our players and families.
